#let me take this opportunity to tell you ALL OF MY FEELINGS about this lady #first of all haters you have been pressed since 2004 and you can remain that way because this lady is too good for you #she is clever and useful and vulnerable but she doesn’t like to let people see that because her whole life has been pool houses and debutant balls and being told that what she really wants for her life isn’t important or feasible or anything to be taken seriously over and over so much that she’s internalized it and started to believe that she’s only as valuable as her face and her body and when people don’t expect more from her than that then she doesn’t have to fear being laughed at or condescended to #but shannon’s so young and that teenage version of herself isn’t that far behind her and she can still remember what it was like before her dad died and she learned that it was less painful to just stop trying to make people believe in her #there’s a version of shannon who was just as mouthy and just as stubborn as this one except she kept her hair long and went to ballet six times a week because she knew she was going to damn well be somebody one day #there’s a version of her who used to spike the punch at the stupid uptight cotillions at the country club that she was always obligated to go to and she’d wear something too short and satin and fire engine red just to see the look on the chaperones faces and leave without her shoes #there’s a version of her who spent six months in paris because she was in love with a guy and she’s never told anybody that she learned french so she could talk to his kid when he wasn’t around because she knows how much it sucks not to have a real mom #and there’s this version of shannon who’s tired and fed-up and doesn’t know what kind of girl she is anymore and all she wants more than anything is to feel like she’s worth something more than an easy mark for a con man and checks signed by boone but it’s been so long since she did anything with her own hands that she’s afraid she doesn’t know where to start #shannon rutherford doesn’t have time for your bullshit
